The Committee on Missing Persons completed identifications from excavations at Atlılar; a memorial museum also opened.

What this report covers

The burial and museum opening took place in North Cyprus, while the Committee on Missing Persons carries out island-wide humanitarian work.

Local context

The North Cyprus Presidency said the remains of 15 Turkish Cypriots were identified after examinations of material excavated at Atlılar cemetery between 24 July 2023 and 23 April 2024. A state burial was held after the Committee on Missing Persons completed its work.

Who this matters to

The Muratağa–Atlılar–Sandallar memorial museum, built with support from TİKA, opened after the ceremony. President Tufan Erhürman said missing-persons work should not be politicised. CYPRIVO reports the identification and memorial facts neutrally and does not reproduce accusatory political rhetoric.
