September 17, 2026 · 3 MIN READ · STORY 127
Thunderstorms, hail and strong winds were expected first in the island's west before spreading to other areas.
What this report covers
The alert and guidance were issued by Republic of Cyprus authorities; North Cyprus weather notices are issued separately.
Local context
Cyprus Civil Defence urged the public to clear drains, secure loose outdoor objects, avoid unnecessary travel and stay out of basements when intense rain approaches. Drivers and pedestrians were told never to cross flooded roads.
Who this matters to
The guidance also advises moving to higher ground during flooding, keeping away from power lines and landslide areas, and avoiding coasts, large trees, signs and balconies in strong winds. Employers were asked to protect outdoor workers, including by pausing exposed works where necessary.
